In this week’s episode of iZombie, the TARDIS and Doctor Who are mentioned in great detail early in the episode–not just a throw-away phrase.
I noticed that the most recent episode of The Flash was directed by Rachel Talalay, who also directed several Doctor Who episodes.
All these reminders of the show makes it that much harder having to wait for new Who!

Our video presentation was filled with the occult, from new series The Shakespeare Code to classic series The Daemons to Reeltime’s sequel The White Witch of Devil’s End. Why in April, you say? Because of Beltane (midnight April 30), prominently featured in The Daemons. If you’re wondering why we didn’t watch a certain Fourth Doctor story about the evils of over-taxation at our April 15th meeting,
1) We watched it the last time the meeting fell on April 15.
2) Tax day this year is tomorrow, April 18.
I enjoy watching the episodes with subtitles, as I learn something new almost every meeting. This month, I finally caught the pun the Tenth Doctor makes when he and Martha are looking for the house of the Carrionites. As a door opens, he says, “Witch house.” I never realized before that he wasn’t just saying, “Which house?”
Recently in a show I watch regularly, a character began a sentence with “What on Earth…” and the response was “What’s Earth got to do with it?” Of course, I immediately wanted to write a sci-fi filksong based on Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to do with it?”!
In Twice Upon a Time, when the First Doctor says “evil should win” because of the survival instinct, did anyone else think it was the most efficient choice only for the individual? Choosing to do good, even at the risk of one’s own happiness (or life), can be better for the group, thus insuring the survival of the species.
Last thought: compare the way classic companions left the Doctor vs. the departures of new series companions. Could it be a panel at your next Doctor Who convention?
I realized recently that photos of the cake and piñata from last December’s party had been promised, but not yet delivered. Here they are, all about girl power:

…the piñata was a representation of The Vault, with a gift from an escaped Missy inside!
Below are a few excerpts from the March 18 issue of Sunday Times Magazine, in which Jodie Whittaker was interviewed by Chrissy Iley:
(Chrissy) There is a firmness to her. You don’t mess with her. There’s a strange kind of deep seated confidence and strength and that’s something that she brings to the roles she plays…there’s a trace of a woman who can do anything. Including take on the role of the first female Doctor Who.
She’s more than willing to make someone’s day. In fact, she does a little video message for my friend Rob – a lifelong Doctor Who fan. He almost cries when he gets it. She knew he would. That is the kind of emotion Doctor Who evokes in people. She is hugely empathic to its fans. She knows she’s taken on something that comes with heritage.
(Jodie) “I like being part of a team…Doctor Who is very collaborative, it is a very exciting job.”
And although it felt overwhelming she also took comfort in that she was part of a team, a team that existed before she was even born. “It’s wonderful and overwhelming and I absolutely love it. As a family we didn’t watch it except at other people’s houses. But I was much more aware of it when it came back with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith.”
Who was her favorite? “David of course, because I know him (her co-star in Broadchurch). I think he was amazing. But there is no right or wrong, there are no rules.”
Often the Doctor becomes very close to his female companion and there’s a semi-romance; is there a romance? “I am only a few weeks in so I don’t know the answers to quite a lot of questions yet.”
“I think I have been really lucky. Doctor Who definitely puts me on a level where if I go into a meeting I probably don’t have to say what I have been doing for the last few months.”
“My birthday is wrong on [my Wikipedia page]. It’s June 17, same day as Arthur Darvill” [Yes, THAT Arthur Darvill].
